Completed in 1858, Point Betsie Lighthouse still serves as a navigation aid in Frankfort, Michigan.

The French referred to this area as Pointe Aux Bec Scies which originates from the name of a nearby river that native Americans called Ug-Zig-A-Zee-Bee. Since the river was inhabited by sawbill and merganser ducks, it was later refered too as Point Betsie which means Saw Beak Point.
