For more than 200 years, this Muskingum River bypass canal has reflected its surroundings, telling a tale of steamboats and commerce.

Built in 1816 to circumvent the falls at Zanesville, Ohio, the canal has served to move goods between the Ohio River and Lake Erie. It was later connected to the Muskingum River lock system, when Lock #10 was built between 1836 and 1841.
Her story today is one of occasional recreational boats and fishermen. In the stillness of eve, she still embraces the concluding rays of light… reflecting her world, a mirror into history.
