The Old Gem Roller Rink

Melodic notes echo through the hall, as a local band embraces its audience with their latest tune. Patrons excitedly laugh and giggle as they glide along the perfectly crafted floors. Their roller skates mix in perfect harmony with musical talent on stage. A momentary shelter from the chores of small-town life.

Referred to as the Old Gem Roller Rink — originally located on the second lot south of the railroad on Wood Street, Pataskala, Ohio — it told a festive tale of roller skating for an untold collection of years during the early 1900s. Today, it now resides on the east side of High Street next to the railroad, after being moved prior to 1922.*

The music and laughter now faded to history, replaced only by passing cars and a chorus of crickets.
